In its effort to improve the health care of Nigerians, the Federal Government establishes Federal Medical Centres in various States with a view to provide health care services for people within and outside the states.
Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State is one of such centres that are considered as one of the most backward centres in the country in terms of adequate Medical officers, equipments and adequate structures as the centre is still in its take off site that was erected in 1961 and converted to Federal Medical Centre in the year 2000.

Chairman, Jigawa Progressive Forum, also a lecturer with department of Criminology federal university Dutse, Malam Usman Suleiman Sarki made the statement on Thursday in Dutse.
He said December 2021, President Muhammad Buhari appointed Dr. Adamu Abdullahi Atterwahmie, MBBS, CART, FWACS, PGDSRH as the Medical Director of the Centre and  assumed duty in January 2022. Within the one year two months spent in office, the narration in respect of the centre has changed as a result of rapid development in the areas of man power, structures, steady provision of adequate and suphisticated equipments, staff welfare and development as well as cooperation and dedication to work by staff of the centre.
On the issue of man power, the Medical Director has employed Medica officers, other health and adminstrative personnel that are required for effective and efficient service delivery in the centre. To improve the security of the centre, more security guards were hired to provide security and other related services, in addition to the renovation of fence and new entrance gate.


Moreover, more structures were constructed in addition to the renovation of the existing ones and this helps in the expansion of services. The central mosque of the centre was also expanded and repositioned in the process of changing the architectural design of the centre.
More importantly, sophisticated equipments required for medical examinations and surgeryand other necessary materials that are regularly used are usually provided as at when due. Interestingly, the procurement of equipments and other relevant materials is done through the procurement Unit in line with the due processes.
To improve the efficiency of the staff in the centre, the Medical Director paid all staff with outstanding arrears of allowances and ensure that all subsequent payments are made as at when due. He further encourage and support the staff cooperative society in the centre as a way of supporting and motivating the staff to be more productive.
As it is today, the outlook of the centre has completely change and the narration of the situation in the centre has also changed with more plans to move the centre to the Apex level.
